AstraZeneca and MedImmune to support Blue Smile as their charity of the year
Announcement comes during Children's Mental Health Week
AstraZeneca and MedImmune have chosen Blue Smile as their first Cambridge charity of the year.
The biopharmaceutical company and its global biologics research and development arm will work with the children’s mental health charity on fundraising activities, awareness talks and mentoring.
Blue Smile was chosen from charities nominated by employees.
The announcement came during Children’s Mental Health Week, which runs from February 5-11.
Sabine Jaccaud, AstraZeneca’s director of communications for Cambridge, said: “AstraZeneca’s charity of the year celebrates our global headquarters coming to Cambridge and we are thrilled to be partnering with Blue Smile in our first year.
“As a global company headquartered in Cambridge, our community engagement has grown from grassroots initiatives around science and health (including Science in Pictures, the Cambridge Academy of Science and Technology Challenge and the Cambridge United Community Trust Active Science Programme) to more formal programmes.
“By launching our charity of the year, we continue our commitment to addressing community needs, with a focus on wellbeing. We are delighted that Cambridge-based colleagues nominated and selected Blue Smile.”

The relationship is already helping to raise awareness of the issues associated with child mental health in our community and, with their support, we will be able to help many more children than ever before across the county.
“Thousands of children in the county are struggling to cope with the impact of family breakdown, bullying, bereavement, domestic violence and far more. Blue Smile relies entirely on public donations and, as statutory services are now limited, the demand for our help is increasing all the time. Support from partners like AstraZeneca and MedImmune plays a key part in allowing us to help children thrive, learn and live happier lives.”
