Ofo ups service in Cambridge with 100 more shared bikes

The dockless bikes will now appear in 'Ofo hubs' to encourage use by commuters.

Bike share company Ofo is rolling out an ‘enhanced service’ in Cambridge and bringing 100 more of its yellow bikes into Cambridge.

The company is says this is following a successful beta trial and a positive response from the council, residents, and users.

As part of its official roll out in the city Ofo will be providing more bikes, adding Bluetooth locks to its entire fleet, and working with employers in the city to create designated ‘Ofo hubs’ to encourage staff to cycle their commute.

What this means for Cambridge

Ofo will be expanding its fleet to 150 bikes, with plans to continue to increase that in line with demand.

The new bikes will be placed in high footfall areas of Cambridge from today

Ofo hubs

In a bid to help Cambridge companies offer their staff alternative transport options, Ofo has been working with Cambridge Science Park, Trinity Centre and other large employers to create designated Ofo hubs.

These hubs would be situated outside company buildings, and the Ofo ground team will ensure a consistent level of bikes are available for staff to use. Visible in the Ofo app, the company says they would encourage workers in the city to commute by bike rather than car.

How it works

Ofo’s yellow bikes are hired through a smartphone app and can be picked up and dropped off anywhere that bike parking is allowed.
