Consultation begins over Boxworth Gateway proposals that could bring 1,850 jobs

Consultation events are being held over proposals for Boxworth Gateway, a net zero carbon logistics development due to deliver space for local businesses.

Newlands, a specialist industrial and logistics developer, proposes around 1.5 million sq ft of logistics space that could generate 1,850 jobs, plus a community hub with the potential for an e-bike station, cafe, nursery and a gym.

It plans new access from Boxworth Road via a purpose-built roundabout, green technologies, including rooftop solar panels, walking and cycling routes through new publicly accessible green space and skills plans for local training and upskilling.

It forecasts a biodiversity net gain of at least 25 per cent.

A three-week consultation, which opened on Monday (30 June), runs until Sunday, 20 July via boxworthgateway.co.uk.

Drop-in events are being held on Thursday (3 July) from 3.30-7pm at Boxworth Village Hall, and on Saturday (5 July) from 10am-1pm at Bar Hill village hall.

A spokesperson for Newlands said “We’re proud to present our vision for Boxworth Gateway - a net zero carbon logistics development that will unlock new opportunities for communities across Greater Cambridge.

“With direct access to the A14 and close proximity to Cambridge, Huntingdon, and Northstowe, the site is ideally positioned to support local employment, clean growth, and sustainable transport. Boxworth Gateway will deliver over 1,850 full-time jobs, a vibrant community hub, and a minimum 25 per cent biodiversity net gain - creating a lasting, positive legacy for the region.”
