Bus destroyed in M11 fire near Cambridge that leads to slip road closure
A slip road off the M11 near Cambridge at the junction for the A10 remains closed after an earlier bus fire.
Firefighters were called to the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 12 and 11 at 6.42am today (Wednesday, 28 February).
They found the bus, which is operated by Stagecoach, “well alight”.
Crews from Cambridge, Sawston and Royston attended the scene, and used two hose reels to put out the blaze.
The fire was out by 7.55am and one person was treated by crews for minor burns to their hands. The cause of the blaze was accidental, say the fire service.
National Highways said the slip road remains closed for “recovery and clean up” due to a diesel spillage.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach East said: “We can confirm there was an incident on one of our services travelling on the M11, southbound this morning (28 February).
“No passengers were on board the vehicle and no injuries were reported. Safety is our absolute priority and we are carrying out a full investigation into the cause of the incident."
