Burwell & Exning move back to top of Onyx League Division One table with big victory over Saffron Walden
Burwell & Exning (276-7) recorded an emphatic 158-run win over Saffron Walden (118) to return to the top of the Onyx League Division One table on Saturday.
Having been replaced at the summit by Walden earlier this month, Burwell & Exning headed into the contest with a five-point deficit to their table-topping visitors.
However, Paul Summerskill’s men are now back in command after taking 25 points from the Mingay Park encounter.
One again it was captain Summerskill that did much of the damage with the bat for Burwell & Exning. The division’s leading run scorer hit 94 from 131 deliveries, while Charlie Sorensen (58 not out) contributed a swift half century alongside Tom Mangelsen’s 49.
And that was followed by a bowling display that ripped through a Walden batting line-up in less than 30 overs.
Ed Manning (3-29) set the tone by dismissing the away side’s opening three batsmen before Nic Huckle (3-24) and Josh Arksey (3-25) also weighed in with a trio of wickets apiece.
The victory has moved Burwell & Exning 17 points clear of second-placed Walden at the halfway point of the season.
They will now aim to tighten their grip on top spot on Saturday (5 July) when they travel to face 10th-placed Blunham.
