Cambridge University name experienced crews to face Oxford in 2018 Cancer Research UK Boat Races
Showdown on the Tideway on March 24
A wealth of experience permeates through the two Cambridge University crews for the 2018 Cancer Research UK Boat Races on Saturday, March 24.
At the official crew announcement and weight-in at London’s City Hall this morning (February 26), the Light Blues’ oarsmen and women that will face their Oxford counterparts on the Tideway were named.
President Hugo Ramambason is joined by fellow returning Blues Freddie Davidson and James Letten, and 2016 Blue Charles Fisher in the Cambridge University Boat Club crew.
Patrick Elwood will be in the bow seat, with Dara Alizedeh, Spencer Furey, Fin Meeks and Rob Hurn complete the line-up.
In the Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club Blue boat, Imogen Grant, Alice White and Myriam Goudet- Boukhatmi return from last year’s victorious crew, and 2016 Blue Thea Zabell is also back in the eight.
They are joined by bow Tricia Smith, Kelsey Barolak, Paula Wesselmann and stroke Olivia Coffey.
At the weigh-in, Cambridge crews topped the scales for both races. Excluding the coxes, the men’s crew were on average were 89.8kg and the women’s crew were 73kg. That compared to the average weight of the Oxford women at 70.9kg and the average weight of the men of 85.6kg.
There is not so much Boat Race experience in the Oxford crew either.
Stroke Vassilis Ragoussis returns for the men, as do Joshua Bugajski and Will Geffen, while for the women, Katherine Erickson and Alice Roberts are the returning Blues.
