Matthew Samson and Tariq Aziz help Cambridge St Giles put Great Shelford to the sword

Openers do the damage

Matthew Samson and Tariq Aziz guided Cambridge St Giles to a 10-wicket win over Great Shelford in Whiting & Partners Cambs and Hunts Premier League, Division Two.

Shelford batted first, and Guy Ennew the was the mainstay of their innings, making 29 not out as they reached 135 for 9.

Will Phelps took three for 20, and Russell Doel weighed in with two for 11.

St Giles reached their target after 18 overs, with the two openers unbeaten. Samson made 66 and Aziz 57 as they got to 136 to move them to just three points behind leaders St Ives.

Sacha Abbasi’s rich vein of form continued as Cambridge Granta II won by four wickets against Ufford Park.

Granta won the toss and elected to field, with Deepak Raj taking three for 21 and Hamza Rashid three for 31 as Ufford Park were bowled out for 169.

Opener Abbasi made 62, and with Will Hales hitting 35 and Samuel Serby (28) and Zaman Akhter (25) also contributing runs, they reached their target with four wickets to spare.
