Eleanor Currington earns top honours at RDA National Championships

Cambs College rider seals dressage success

Eleanor Currington has been crowned dressage champion at the Riding for the Disabled Association National Championships in Gloucestershire.

The 26-year-old Cambridge rider was competing in the National Grade 3 RDA event when she won the crown on Drunkeen Boy, a horse owned by the Cambs College RDA group.

Currington has been riding with the Cambs College RDA group for seven years after a stroke left her unable to feel her right arm and leg.

She has qualified for the RDA National Championships before, but this was her first title.

On scoring 77 per cent in her test, five clear of her nearest rival, Currington said in seeing the scoreboard: “There must be some mistake!”

It adds another title to an outstanding year that has seen Currington selected to represent the East Region at the Para Home International, where they came third and she won the Grade 3 class.

Currington has also qualified for the SEIB Search for a Star RDA Showing Championships at Addington in September.
