Domino hosts Cambridge Maths School visit to Bar Hill site

Domino hosted 18 students at its Bar Hill headquarters as part of its National Manufacturing Day activities.

National Manufacturing Day is an annual MAKE UK initiative, held in September, to encourage manufacturers throughout the UK to open their doors to their local communities to showcase the sector, allow a behind-the-scenes look at how facilities work and see the potential careers and jobs on offer for all age groups, including school leavers and graduates.

The 16 to 18-year-olds from Cambridge Maths School are all considering studying mechanical, electrical or software engineering after completing their A-levels.

The day’s programme included a tour of the company’s manufacturing facility and a visit to the customer experience room to see how Domino technology is being used across a wide range of products and industries.

There was also the chance to talk to recent graduates, some through the Domino Apprenticeship Scheme, and to see the warehouse, where products and supplies are processed efficiently to meet customer requirements. The guests were joined by the Combined Authority mayor, Dr Nik Johnson.

Teacher Susan Hutchinson said: “We had a fascinating day at Domino, exploring all aspects of the production process from design to distribution. The students had their eyes opened to the vast range of career opportunities in the manufacturing industry. We are very grateful to all Domino employees who kindly welcomed us during the day.”

Carl Haycock, European hardware operations director at Domino, said: “It was a privilege to welcome the students and help bring to life the benefits of a career in manufacturing. We were also delighted that Dr Johnson could join us. I’d like to thank the Domino team for their support in making this such an interesting day with factory and warehouse tours, excellent product demonstrations and interactive activities.

“Helping to encourage students to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) is an important objective for us at Domino. We want to share the magic so that we can ensure we attract the next generation of engineers.”
