Supported by the Cambridge Independent, the awards champion small and medium-sized businesses across Cambridgeshire.

From Young Entrepreneur of the Year to Community Business of the Year, the broad range of categories are a celebration of the expertise and dedication of those working at SMEs.

And there is some fierce competition for the awards, the winners of which will be announced at a gala dinner at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford on July 4.

The Employer of the Year category is a three-way tussle between Cambourne-based regional travel company Premier Travel, St Ives-based production line solutions firm SF Engineering and Argent's salons, the umbrella company for Salon at Number 5 and The Cambridge Lash Company, whose founder, Lucy Argent, is one of seven on the shortlist for Business Woman of the Year.

There is another three-way battle for the Not-for-profit Business of the Year category, with Allia, which runs the Future Business Centres in Cambridge and Peterborough, taking on sustainable community movement Groundwork Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and St Neots-based Switch Now CIC, which helps young adults with learning difficulties

Damian Cummins, director of organiser Events and PR, said: "Yet again the finalists in Cambridgeshire have exceeded all expectations. The feedback from the judges indicates a very high quality of entrant. The final is going to be a cracker."

Paul Brackley, editor of the Cambridge Independent, said: "It has been a pleasure to be involved in these awards for the third year running. There were some outstanding entries, proving SMEs in Cambridgeshire are in good shape. I wish all the entrants the best of luck."
