Ghost tour helps TSA Riley and COEL raise funds for CamTrust
A ghost tour and drinks reception helped raise spirits - and funds - for CamTrust.
The Cambridge-based team for global project consultants TSA Riley joined design and fit-out company COEL for the Hallowe’en-themed fundraiser to aid the charity, which provides training in life and work skills for adults with learning disabilities.
Beginning at Great St Mary’s Church, four guides from Haunted Cambridge Ghost Tours - known as the city’s scariest storytellers - told tales of the paranormal, taking the brave entourage to the home of the last hangman of Cambridge and a haunted bookshop.
The guests learned what the golden Chronophage represents, why there is always an open window in the Eagle pub and from where the phrase ‘the skeleton in the cupboard’ originated.
After tales of the gruesome, the groups relaxed with a drinks reception at the recently completed River Wing in Clare College, which was project managed by TSA Riley.
Part of the extension and renovation of Old Court, a Grade I listed building, the River Room, overlooks the River Cam and fellows’ garden, it previously served as a series of storage and ancillary areas but now acts as a social hub with a café.
Ranging in width from one to eight metres, it was a logistically challenging project and now encompasses lift access to upper floors of Old Court, so that these can be reached by all, for the first time in the college’s nearly 700-year history.
“We were delighted to co-host an event which took in some of the iconic sights of Cambridge providing a different insight into their past,” said the companies. “The tour guides did a spectacular job in bringing history to life and creating an air of mystery which thrilled our guests. The River Wing at Clare College was the perfect reception space providing delicious food and drink. We would like to thank all who supported the event and helped us to raise £1200 for CamTrust, an outstanding local charity.”
The guest speaker was the charity’s CEO, Lilly Mungovan.
