Gulce launches fashion collection at Cambridge Sook
Cambridge’s latest clothing brand, Gulce, was presented at Sook on Friday (September 18).
The new fashion brand was started by Maria Eduarda Goulart Cedro, who is studying business marketing at ARU, and Hazel Gül, a pediatric receptionist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
The co-founders started Gulce - a combination of the start of their surnames - in June last year. Maria, who is from Brazil, says: “We met through a Brazilian friend who is a close friend of Hazel. Our first collection was 15 items. There’s 20 items in our new collection. It’s mainly things you could wear in any season, we think carefully about the colours but try to adapt for the whole year. This range is in small, medium or large. Prices vary from £15 to £40 so it’s quite affordable.
“For the next collection Hazel will be designing from extra small to extra large. ”
Gulce has international roots thanks to Maria returning “at least twice a year, in May/June, then in December for Christmas”.
“We buy the fabric in the UK and get the clothes made in Brazil – it costs so much more to be made in the UK.”
Emily Pirkle, art partnerships at Sook , said of the launch: “They were very happy and we thought it looked great.”
The new collection can be found on Etsy and Shopify.
