IKEA to trial Collect Near You service at Tesco car park in Cambridge
IKEA is to trial a new click and collect point at a Tesco car park in Cambridge.
The Swedish furniture and furnishing giant said it would enable customers to collect their order for free at the Newmarket Road supermarket site if they are spending more than £200 and will charge £10 for all other orders.
It is one of six ‘Collect Near You’ points being piloted for six months with Tesco by IKEA, with the first going live in Blackburn on October 10.
It said the trials in Doncaster, Cambridge, Dereham, Bolton, Stockport and Liverpool will follow in a “gradual rollout” later this year.
IKEA said customers will be able to select the service when checking out online, then be guided by signage in the Tesco car park to a designated pick-up point at their chosen date and time, where they will meet with a delivery driver, who will hand their order over to them.
The retailer already offers the service in Denmark and Portugal.
Julie Carr, fulfilment and multichannel network manager, IKEA UK & Ireland, said: “We are proud to be collaborating with Tesco to test-and-trial more convenient, accessible, and affordable collection services in the UK across a number of key locations. This collaboration recognises that in an ever-changing retail environment, there is an opportunity to work together to bring IKEA closer to the many people.”
The Tesco stores involved are:
- Tesco Blackburn Superstore
- Tesco Doncaster Extra
- Tesco Cambridge Newmarket Road Superstore
- Tesco Dereham Extra
- Tesco Bolton Horwich Extra
- Tesco Stockport Extra
- Tesco Liverpool Old Swan Superstore
IKEA offers home delivery already, but charges for the service, with parcels charged from £4 to £19 and large delivery costing £40 or £50 for the express service.
