Raspberry Pi sets up CamJam 13th birthday celebration
It’s Raspberry Pi’s 13th birthday, and CamJam is hosting an event on Saturday (1 March) at the start of the remarkable mini-computer’s teens.
The first Raspberry Pi computer was released 13 years ago on 1 March, but its actual birthday was 29 February.
Founder Eben Upton began designing the first Raspberry Pi prototypes in 2006, as a way to create an accessible and low-cost entry point to computing. The response was an instant success, and the Pi has since served thousands of young coders and hobbyists. In June last year Raspberry Pi was listed on the London Stock Exchange, as Raspberry Pi Holdings plc.
This CamJam is being hosted at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory (at the William Gates Building) with the support of Raspberry Pi. The doors open at 10am. There will be an assortment of activities during the day (the event closes at 4pm), which will include:
- Talks – aimed at a variety of different abilities and on a variety of different topics
- Workshops – to allow participants to learn and practice skills
- Show and Tell – an area for makers to show off their projects and talk to Jam participants about them.
The talks will include Paul Mansfield on ‘Ham radio and Raspberry Pi’ and ‘The Raspberry Pi RP2350 Design’ with Raspberry Pi’s Luke Wren, principal ASIC engineer.
There will also be a Show & Tell area, and marketplace.
