Developers are hungry for land for new homes, according to law firm HCR Hewitsons, which has recently appointed two new members to its plot sales team to keep up with demand.

“The pandemic has impacted the economy in many ways, but the appetite for land for new homes, be that private or affordable housing, remains voracious,” said partner in HCR Hewitsons real estate team, Yvette Morgan.

Yvette specialises in large-scale housing and mixed-development projects, acting mainly for public sector agencies and with a specialist interest in social housing.

She added: “There is something quite magical about moving into a brand-new home and, through our work with clients such as Homes England, we are pleased to be part of that process for many people, all over the UK.”

HCR Hewitsons has been a member of the legal panel of Homes England – the government’s housing accelerator – since 2005 and is delighted to continue acting for this long-standing client.

During this time, HCR Hewitsons has been instructed on over 1,800 matters, ranging from major regeneration projects, investment and grant funding, through to developer plot sales.

Homes England is a government agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. It is tasked with increasing the number of new homes that are built in England, including affordable homes and homes for market, sale or rent.

Joining senior plot sales assistant Rosanna Hawking and plot sales assistants Jack Tozer and Christine Goh on the HCR Hewitsons team are Aimee George and Diamond Nwole.

Team member Rosanna deals with public and private developer disposals, deeds of easements, deeds of release and variation, transfers of land to management companies or housing associations and various statutory agreements and ancillary advice.

She said: “It is great to be part of such an active team, working on contracts which are changing the lives of thousands of people in the UK and shaping local communities and landscapes.”

Yvette added: “Over the past year, everyone has realised they can work just as efficiently at home and therefore, having some distance from your office is no longer unacceptable.

“As such, people are coming to the conclusion that they can have a better quality of life by moving out of over-congested areas to more rural areas, where housing costs can be lower too. Our work helps facilitate this trend.”

The HCR Hewitsons real estate team, supported by specialist planning construction and real estate dispute colleagues, has a wealth of experience across a broad spectrum of property matters.

HCR Hewitsons prides itself on delivering a tailormade service for each and every client, combining clear accurate advice with market knowledge and commercial pragmatism to ensure transactions are concluded successfully, on time, and on budget.

As well as Homes England, clients include individuals, businesses, charities, educational establishments, governmental bodies, developers and funders, both domestic and international.
