Siemens Digital Industries Software to switch to Brooklands, Cambridge’s first net zero carbon office development

Siemens Digital Industries Software will move to large new office space at Brooklands, the new Cambridge business campus off Clarendon Road.

It has agreed to take a 10-year lease of 27,631 sq ft over two floors, representing about 40 per cent of the total 67,000 sq ft scheme, which is due to be completed in the final quarter of 2024.

The industrial technology company is currently based nearby in Hills Road.

Brooklands is on course to be Cambridge’s first net zero carbon office development, with BREAAM Excellent and EPC A+ ratings being targeted.

Ben Sheath, vice president and UK country manager at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said: “We continually strive to provide our people with clean and safe workspaces that prioritise sustainability and wellness.

“Our new Cambridge facility will offer our employees a greener workspace in which they can excel and develop to their full potential together.”

Thanks to green energy procurement and sustainable control measures, the move is expected to cut Siemens Digital Industries Software’s total CO2 impact from 154kg to 0kg.

On-site demolition work has now been completed and main contractor SDC Builder is working on the build.

It is the first major letting at Brooklands for Wrenbridge and M&G Real Estate, part of M&G plc’s £76billion private assets and alternatives division.

Jamie Garrett, director at Wrenbridge, said: “We are delighted to have secured the first occupier at Brooklands, which is a huge testament to the quality of the scheme. Alongside architects Allies & Morrison, Wrenbridge and M&G have worked hard to design a future-proofed and modern campus for businesses to enjoy for years to come.”

With Cambridge’s railway station nearby, secure cycle spaces, with changing and locker facilities, along with native planted trees, the green credentials of the site are being promoted as a key part of its appeal.

John Duxbury, head of UK portfolio asset management at M&G Real Estate, added; “This prominent letting not only reinforces the strength of the Cambridge office market, but also endorses the significance of sustainability minded design.

“Brooklands is a prime example of how M&G Real Estate is continuing to invest, reposition, and develop high quality, ESG-led office assets across the UK and Europe’s major towns and cities, to command premium rents from local and international occupiers which have sustainability and employee wellbeing at the heart of their business plans.”
