Sir Michael Marshall and Dr John C Taylor honoured at Marshall Leasing milestone event
The aviation achievements of Dr John C Taylor and Sir Michael Marshall were marked at an event hosted by Marshall Leasing, which has also celebrated reaching a combined leased fleet of 50,000 vehicles.
Sponsored by the vehicle telemetry and connected camera company Matrix Telematics, the event at Cambridge Airport marked Dr Taylor’s 65 years as a pilot and Sir Michael’s 70 years in the aviation industry and as a pilot.
Marshall Leasing, previously owned by Marshall Motor Group, is now part of the Bank of Ireland (Northridge Finance Division), and representatives from the motor industry were in attendance. The company is launching a personal contract hire (PCH) proposition to the fleet market.
Air Commodore Gordon Moulds, who previously held high office in the RAF and now runs disadvantaged children’s charity Kids Out, led the toasts to Dr Taylor, the inventor of the famous Corpus Chronophage Clock in Cambridge, and to Sir Michael.
Dr Taylor spoke to engineers and apprentices about his life as an inventor and his invention of the ‘Otter G’ switch, a vehicle motor protector, thermal safety cut-out and thermostat.
Marshall Leasing’s sales and marketing director, Jonathan Ross, said: “We’ve celebrated the leasing of 50,000 vehicles which is a phenomenal achievement. It is 29 years since Peter Cakebread and I took on the challenge, and Marshall Leasing has been supported by the Marshall family throughout.
“It seems highly appropriate to mark this milestone in Marshall Leasing’s history at Cambridge Airport with an array of such special people, as we celebrate our past and look to our future.”
Mr Cakebread, Marshall Leasing’s MD, said: “We have a great heritage, and we have worked hard with Northridge Finance to ensure that we retain the key values which have made Marshall Leasing stand out. We have always taken an innovative approach to our business so it’s fantastic to be honouring two of Britain’s most entrepreneurial businessmen here today.”
Marshall Minibus, a subdivision of Marshall Leasing that has enjoyed recent success in the school minibus sector, was also represented.
