Specsavers reopens with more space in Lion Yard with own audiology centre
Specsavers Cambridge has opened the doors to its new, larger premises following an £800,000 relocation to Lion Yard shopping centre.
The retailer has 2,700 stores across the UK and in Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
Its latest outlet has opened with seven (previously there were five) testing rooms including dedicated audiology rooms. Three new members of staff – two audiologists and a receptionist – have also joined the team.
The team hosted a grand opening day on Tuesday (15 October), and NHS administrator Diane Nichols, who has worked at the store since it opened 38 years ago, was given the honour of cutting the ribbon.
The facility is run by four highly experienced local partners – Henry Churchill, Kam Dhillon, Lewis White and Jag Dhillon.
Henry says: “We’ve been on the High Street in Cambridge for almost 40 years and we love providing care for the local community.
“High demand meant we had simply outgrown the old premises, so we jumped at the opportunity when a larger space became available. Our colleagues are loving the new environment and we've already had great feedback from our customers.
“We are also really excited about being able to provide hearing services as the store also has brand new audiology centre. We have taken on several new staff members for this new resource – two audiologists as well as a receptionist.”
Anyone unable to visit the Specsavers Cambridge store unaccompanied due to disability or illness may be eligible to receive care at home via a team of mobile opticians, details here.
