The Cambridge Building Society shortlisted for IT award after switch to cloud-based system

The Cambridge Building Society has been shortlisted for the Best IT Team award in the annual FSTech Financial Services Awards.

It reflects the large-scale move of its core banking infrastructure to a cloud-based system – believed to be the first in the UK by a building society.

The IT team moved millions of pounds of assets, and hundreds of thousands of items of customer data, e-banking, mobile apps, savings and mortgage and payment processes, from a traditional data centre-hosted platform to a cloud-based system during a seamless eight-hour window over a weekend, with no customer impact.

The society’s head of IT and change, Trevor Tannenbaum, said: “My entire team is absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award.

“They worked tirelessly to ensure this migration was seamless, and was implemented on time, on budget and with no customer or staff disruption.

“We are proud to now be setting the standard for cloud-based data infrastructure and advising other organisations looking to increase core banking data resilience, reduce lengthy processes and potentially save money.”

The four-month project was undertaken amid the Covid pandemic, and while moving its software across to Office365 and completing renovations of its branches in Cherry Hinton and Histon.

The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in London in March.
