Visit Cambourne Sixth Form’s open evening

The exciting expansion of Cambourne Village College, an outstanding school located in the growing communities of Cambourne and West Cambourne, enters its next phase this week, as the new sixth form hosts its inaugural open evening.

Staff and student ambassadors will welcome Year 11 students and their families to the college site between 6 and 8:30pm. Visitors will be invited to hear talks from Lynn Mayes, the new principal of the college, in addition to Stephen Munday, the CEO of The Cam Academy Trust, which is overseeing the development of the new Sixth Form facility. The event is open to the public, with no need to book in advance; more information and an online prospectus can be found here: www.cambournesixthform.org.

With its own entrance and purpose-built facilities including a library and lecture theatre, the sixth form will continue the excellence in teaching and learning on offer at Cambourne Village College, while providing a distinct educational experience to reflect the growing independence and maturity of our sixth formers.

Conveniently accessed by bus from Cambridge, St Neots and the surrounding villages, and just two minutes’ drive from the A428, Cambourne Sixth Form offers a wealth of facilities to young people from Cambourne and beyond, as well as the exciting opportunity to be part of our inaugural year group and shape the direction and ethos of the sixth form for future generations.

Cambourne Sixth Form offers a wide range of high-quality Level 3 courses, including A-levels and vocational options, led by experienced and outstanding teaching staff.

All students will be offered the opportunity to study three or four A-levels, or a combination of A-levels and vocational courses, subject to demand. As in the mainstream school, technology plays a central role in learning, and all students will have an iPad or MacBook and access to technical support.

The new sixth form shares much in common with its sister centre, Comberton Sixth Form, and hence offers a broad range of enrichment opportunities, such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which enables young people to gain an additional qualification by undertaking research in a subject they are passionate about. In addition, the International Project Qualification will be on offer, which enables academically gifted young people to develop their critical thinking skills, and Level 3 Core Maths, for students who are looking to enhance numeracy skills alongside their other choices.

In line with the village college ethos of the main school, sixth formers will contribute significantly to the wider community, with opportunities for volunteering, sports, and work experience.

Alongside this high-quality academic offer sits a personalised programme that prioritises student well-being; form tutors will provide individual support across Years 12 and 13. The initial smaller size of the sixth form will allow for every individual to be known and given personal support, from the initial guidance interview, through the tutoring and pastoral programme, to the post-18 applications process.

Students at Cambourne Sixth Form will be given extensive careers guidance, including mentoring to aid their progress onto degree courses at prestigious universities, apprenticeships or workplace schemes that befit the skills and experiences gained in our sixth form.

As a member of the Cam Academy Trust, Cambourne Sixth Form offers excellence for every young person choosing to study there. The sixth form’s ethos centres on the values of aspiration, independence and community, and the idea that young people will be supported to develop into future leaders and role models while gaining meaningful qualifications.
