The 51-year-old clocked up 1,212,477 steps by walking a route around Cambridge every day from July 1 to September 30, raising £545 in the process and improving his diabetic health.

The retired photographic technician, who has type II diabetes and had heart surgery in 2009, said: “I’ve enjoyed it very much and signed up again for next year. It has helped my health immensely and I’ve lost 3kg in weight. I’ve had a heart check and my cardiologist said I was better than last year.”

Mr Majidi, 51, said he completed a daily route that took him past Netherhall School and the Robin Hood pub, towards Cherry Hinton Hall and the leisure centre on Cherry Hinton Road, before passing Long Road Sixth Form, heading onto Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Hills Road before returning home.
