1,100 walkers look forward to Bridge the Gap charity walk in Cambridge - and you can still join them
The ever-popular Bridge the Gap charity walk returns on Sunday (September 10).
Hundreds of people of all ages will be taking part in the family-friendly event, walking through the grounds of seven University of Cambridge colleges, raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice and Romsey Mill.
Pre-booking has closed, with more than 1,100 walkers signed up, but you can register on the day for the walk, which is supported again by the Cambridge Independent.
On the day, registration at arhc.org.uk/btg will go live from 12.01am on Sunday, or you can simply head to Parker’s Piece on the morning, where you can register from 9am until 10.30am, when the last wave of walkers sets off.
This year’s walk takes in Downing, Darwin, Newnham, Selwyn, King’s and Emmanuel colleges, as well as Ridley Hall Theological College. Newnham and Ridley Hall are featuring for the very first time.
There is also a treasure hunt for primary-aged children about some of the sights on the route.
The walk starts and ends at Parker’s Piece, where there will be a cake tent, refreshments and musical entertainment from the City of Cambridge Brass Band and The Blue Clovers. Waterbeach Brass Band will be performing at Emmanuel College.
On the day entry is £22.50 per adult and up to three under-16s can enjoy the walk for free with each registered paying adult. The treasure hunt costs £2 per entry.
All proceeds, including any sponsorship, will be split evenly between Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill.
The Cambridge Building Society, headline sponsor for the previous 15 years, is joined by TTP Group, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Cambridge City Rotary Club.
Other event partners include the Co-op and Cambridge 105 Radio.
Peter Burrows, chief executive at The Cambridge Building Society, said: “Bridge the Gap is a much-loved fixture in our events calendar and one that our people and members eagerly anticipate, which is why we’re acting as headline sponsors of the walk for the 15th successive year.
“Our teams are fully invested in both fundraising and raising awareness for our charity partners, and we genuinely look forward to making a difference to so many people in our community.”
Sharon Allen, chief executive at Arthur Rank, added: “The Bridge the Gap charity walk has firmly established itself as a cherished event in Cambridge’s vibrant social calendar. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to embrace the beauty of the city’s historic college grounds and gardens once again. I extend a warm invitation to all who haven’t secured their spot to join us for what promises to be an exceptional day.”
Neil Perry, chief executive at Romsey Mill, said: “Bridge the Gap is an event that shows off Cambridge at its very best!
“It brings together so many different parts of the city, with the involvement of local businesses, community groups, volunteers and the colleges. All contribute massively to help put on a great event for those who walk the route whilst also raising vital funds for the two charities.”
