17-year-old boy left by his parents beside M11 near Cambridge at night
A 17-year-old boy was left by his parents at night beside the side of the M11 near Cambridge.
Cambridgeshire police’s Child Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit (CAISU) said the boy had to walk a mile on the darkest stretch of motorway to an emergency SOS phone to get help.
The boy, who is not from Cambridgeshire and had no links here, has been temporarily placed in police protection to keep him safe while investigations continue.
The police force said it could not release further details but added: “A lot of the work from our CAISU team is sensitive in nature and difficult to share, but examples like this highlight work that goes on behind the scenes and helps highlight our commitment to protecting children – a force priority.”
Anyone with concerns about a child can report them in confidence and anonymously via the force’s dedicated web page on child protection.
“You don’t have to be sure, but one call or report could change or even save a life. All reports can be made in confidence and can be done anonymously,” said the force.
