Police have arrested a man on suspicion of arson endangering life following a house fire in Cambridge.
They were called just after midnight on Sunday (June 18) to the home in Fen Road, Chesterton, following a report of an explosion.
Initially, it was suggested that the fire had been accidental, but following a fire investigation it is now believed it was started deliberately.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson told the Cambridge Independent: “We were contacted just after midnight on Sunday (18 June) concerning a fire at a property in Fen Road, Cambridge.
“Officers attended the scene and a 23-year-old man from King's Lynn was arrested on suspicion of arson.
“He has been released on bail until 18 September.”
Fire crews from Cambridge, Cottenham and Cambourne, along with a water carrier from Newmarket in Suffolk, were called to the fire at 11.46pm on Saturday and found it was well-developed on arrival.
They wore breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using hose reels and a jet, before clearing the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
