All the attractions and prices for new Christmas in Cambridge festive village in 2024 as seven-year deal agreed
A seven-year deal to bring the ‘Christmas in Cambridge’ festive village to Parker’s Piece has been agreed.
Seventa Events is due to launch the winter wonderland attraction, offering entertainment, food and shopping, on 14 November and it will run until 5 January, 2025.
Open daily from 11am, it will transform Parker’s Piece with a Christmas market, ice rink and domes, an alpine lodge, Christmas Tree Maze and The Après Terrace, while the Big Wheel will be in operation too, offering a view over the scene. Booking for the attractions has now opened.
And it will be the first year of seven for the attraction, after a contract was signed with Cambridge City Council.
“We are beyond excited to kick off the countdown to an amazing festive season starting 14 November,” said Simon Brooks, director of Seventa Events. “Our goal is to bring a Christmas event to Cambridge that truly captures the magic and joy of the holidays, creating a celebration that residents can enjoy throughout the season.
“Christmas in Cambridge is designed to be an event that everyone can take pride in. We are committed to supporting the local economy, working closely with local businesses, suppliers, and traders to create a vibrant and sustainable festive experience for the community.”
Aiming to suit all ages, Christmas in Cambridge will feature:
- A Christmas market – featuring a mix of local and national traders in chalet huts, offering festive gifts and street food, including the famous Yorkshire Pudding Wrap;
- An ice rink and domes – Cambridge’s largest outdoor ice rink will be open to all ages and abilities, with skate aids for beginners, while viewing platforms and heated domes will offer a cosy spot to watch while enjoying food and drinks. A snow dome for up to six people for 90 minutes costs £80 and includes a sharing charcuterie board, a choice of six beers, ciders, mulled wines or hot chocolates or a bottle of prosecco to enjoy. You can now book an hour’s ice skating session priced at £12.50 for those aged 12 and under, £14 for those aged 13-17 and £15 for adults, of £48 for a family of four.
- The Alpine Lodge – inspired by the slopes of Val-d’Isère, and featuring indoor and outdoor spaces, this is the place to enjoy festive drinks while listening to Christmas tunes. A bar booth for up to six people for 90 minutes will cost £80 and include a choice of six beers, ciders or mulled wines, or a bottle of prosecco.
- A Christmas tree maze – with more than 300 Christmas trees.
- The Après Terrace – this will feature new curling lanes, free-to-play shuffleboard and air hockey, and food and drink at the Après Bar. You can book a private curling lane for 90 minutes for eight people, and get eight beers, ciders, mulled wines, hot chocolates or a bottle of prosecco within the price.
- The Big Wheel – the 36-metre tall Big Wheel will offer stunning a view over the city and maze, complemented by a vintage carousel.
Simon added: “From family gatherings to festive nights out with friends and corporate Christmas parties, ‘Christmas in Cambridge’ will offer something for everyone.
“We’ve partnered with Cambridge Dining Company to enhance our corporate offerings and are eager to collaborate with more local businesses.
“With a seven-year contract in place, we look forward to growing this event into something truly special for Cambridge, creating jobs, boosting the local economy, and generating income for hotels, restaurants, and retailers.”
The arrival of the new Christmas village follows two years without a winter wonderland attraction in the city following the end of the contract with the provider of the previous ‘North Pole’ attraction following winter 2021.
