All the bus service changes and withdrawals planned by Stagecoach in Cambridgeshire in April 2024

Stagecoach is planning a raft of changes to bus services in Cambridgeshire from 14 April, 2024.

It is cancelling some services, reducing others, altering timetables and also planning some additional services and some earlier buses to help those with early starts.

The bus company said it was responding to levels of demand and reflecting the impact of increasing congestion, particularly in Cambridge, which is increasing journey times and affecting punctuality and reliability. The company has complained more than once about the impact of roadworks on its ability to run a punctual service.

Some of the changes have caused alarm for passengers worried about how they will reach work, school or appointments.

Two petitions have been swiftly launched against the reduction of the No 9 Littleport-Cambridge service, which the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is considering safeguarding by running a tender for a new contracted service.

Here are the changes in Cambridgeshire, with others also planned for Peterborough.

The Cambridgeshire bus service changes planned by Stagecoach from 14 April, 2024

- A reduction in the No 9 Littleport-Cambridge service to three journeys each way per day.

- The withdrawal of the Citi 4a Cambourne-Cambridge service, along with timetable changes to improve punctuality of the Citi 4 Cambourne-Cambridge.

- The withdrawal of the No 25 Trumpington Park & Ride to Babraham Park & Ride service operated on behalf of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

- Reduction in the frequency of the No 7 Cambridge-Saffron Walden service due to congestion increasing journey times.

- Reduction in the frequency of the No 8 Cambridge-Chatteris service, again due to congestion.

- Timetable changes to the Citi 2 Milton-Addenbrooke’s service to improve punctuality, with an additional stop at The Busway Parkside on journeys towards Milton.

- Timetable changes to Citi 3 Fison Road-Cherry Hinton.

- Two additional early journeys on the PR3 Trumpington Park & Ride-Cambridge service, leaving at 7am and 7.10am, to help passengers get to earlier shifts.

- Timetable changes on the PR4 Babraham Park & Ride-Cambridge service to improve punctuality and respond to demand, with buses operating every 12 minutes from Monday to Sunday and an earlier first bus, leaving the Park & Ride site at 6.41am to better align with NHS shift times.

- Timetable changes on the Service 5 Cambridge-Longstanton with additional stops at Stirling Road, Eagle Way and Wellington Road in Northstowe.

– Increased frequency of the Busway A Cambridge-St Ives service, which will run every 15 minutes on weekdays, no change at the weekends but an earlier 4.30am start from Monday to Saturday to help Addenbrooke’s workers get to their 6am shifts.

- Withdrawal of the F service Fenstanton-St Ives due to low demand.

- A new network for Haverhill comprising three routes: the No 13 peak-time only service (half-hourly Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sunday), 13A (hourly Monday to Saturday) and X13 (with additional departures so it offers nine trips to Haverhill and 10 to Cambridge on weekdays, plus one to Cambridge and three to Haverhill on Saturdays). Stagecoach said will provide “more fast and direct connections between Haverhill and Cambridge”.
