Bikers out in force as festive toy run returns to Cambridge

Riders were back on their motorbikes last Sunday (December 12) as the annual Christmas Toy Run from La Pergola at Harlton to Addenbrooke’s to deliver toys to the children in hospital returned after a Covid hiatus last year.

Once again, the management of La Pergola was delighted to host the gathering in readiness for the bikers’ toy-laden journey to Trumpington to be welcomed by the mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Russ McPherson.

The journey to deliver toys and to help families in need via the Red Hen Project attracted 587 bikers and around 800 people in 2019, and on their Facebook page, the organisers initially felt that this year the turnout was even bigger.

However, in a post on the site, they said: “We have sat and counted the video back a few times. Hands up who thought it felt bigger than 2019? We know. We did, the car parks were full, the toy pile seemed bigger...

“However, we were wrong and the numbers were down. We’re shocked... 350 this year, so that means you did a massively good job on the giving and creating an amazing atmosphere. Well done to you all.”
