Burst water main affects water supply for Witchford households and prompts Witchford Village College closure

A burst water main has affected the water supply for some households in the Witchford area today (Thursday, 17 October) and prompted the closure of Witchford Village College.

Most customers are believed to have low water pressure but Anglian Water acknowledged that a few may have no water at all.

The water company has confirmed it is working to restore the supply.

A spokesperson said: “We are sorry some customers in Witchford Road, Ely and surrounding areas may have woken up to low water pressure or no water at all this morning. This is due to a burst water main in the area, which our engineers are working to fix as quickly as possible.

“Whilst the repair is ongoing our engineers have been trying to keep the majority of customers on water by sing large tankers to top-up the network and re-routing water from other areas. We know this is especially inconvenient when you’re getting ready for the day, so thanks for bearing with us while we get things back to normal as fast as we can.”

But since the morning demand puts extra pressure on the network, it also expects a significant improvement in the coming hours.

Witchford Village College said it would be closed today due to the issue.

Anglian Water said it will be updating its website at www.anglianwater.co.uk/check as work progresses.
