Cambridge Beer Festival smashes all records

The 46th annual Cambridge Summer Beer Festival - for which more than 550 volunteers gave up their time to help - has come to a close.

A record 45,111 customers were served a total of 110,700 pints of beer, cider and perry, more than 2,200 bottles of wine and mead and approximately 750kg of cheese.

A further record was set by festival charity, the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which raised more than £25,000 to help support people in Cambridgeshire living with a life-limiting illness and those requiring end-of-life care.

Anthony Cox, festival organiser, was particularly pleased with the number of customers visiting. “I think this shows that interest in real ales, perries and ciders continues to be strong," he said. "Although nationally pubs are shutting at an alarming rate, a record attendance at our festival shows the strength of feeling in Cambridgeshire for good community pubs which serve good beer. I’d particularly like to thank our volunteers, without whom we would not be able to run the event.”

Donna Talbot, director of fundraising and communications for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, added: "We have loved being involved in the Beer Festival, and working alongside the fantastic team of volunteers who plan, build and staff this amazing event. We would like to thank all those who contributed to this record-breaking total."

The Cambridge Summer Beer Festival returns in 2020, from May 18-23.
