Cambridge: fire breaks out at Coleridge Community College

Smoke was seen pouring from a blaze at Coleridge Community College this morning (Monday, August 10).

The fire appears to have started in the solar panels on the gym roof and no one is reported to be injured.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On Monday (10) at 10.35am we were called to reports of a fire at the sports hall on the Coleridge Community College site on Radegund Road, Cambridge.

"Crews and the multistar from Cambridge, along with crews from Ely, Burwell, Sawston, as well as crews from Haverhill and Newmarket, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, attended. They arrived to find large plumes of black smoke issuing from the area.

"The fire was contained to solar panels on the roof area of a sports hall. Firefighters used two jets to prevent the fire spreading. Crews have started scaling back. The school was promptly evacuated."
