Cambridge Science Centre celebrates scientific superheroes as Milton Road Primary School visit

Scientists from leading companies were quizzed by children from Milton Road Primary School as Cambridge Science Centre hosted a ‘Superheroes’ event.

It was designed to celebrate the contributions of companies, including Nuclera, AstraZeneca, Illumina and Owlstone Medical, that share time and expertise to inspire the next generation of scientists.

And the pupils visiting the centre on Cambridge Science Park enjoy the chance to meet the scientists featured as case studies in its interactive lab space.

Dao Burt, of Illumina, Christina Dumitriu Jackson, from AstraZeneca, and Sunidhi Shetty, of Nuclera, took part in a lively Q&A session to share their route into science, discussing their work and highlighting the wide range of opportunities in STEM careers.

The pupils asked insightful questions, finding out how the scientists chose their careers, their favourite school subjects, how cancer is treated and views on the future impact of AI on science.

Afterwards, the children took part in one of the centre’s curriculum-linked workshops, called Chain Reaction, which reinforces key scientific concepts through hands-on exploration.

“The generosity of our local science community is what makes this space so special,” said Rebecca Porter, CEO of Cambridge Science Centre. “By sharing their experiences and insights, these incredible scientists are not only making science more relatable but also showing young people that a future in STEM is within their reach. We are immensely grateful for their support.”

The centre said the event highlighted the power of industry collaboration in making science accessible, engaging and inspiring for children.
