No one is believed to have been hurt in the incident but witnesses reported hearing a bang and seeing smoke in the store.

Everyone was evacuated while the incident was investigated.

The noise is through to have come from a refrigeration unit.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our Cambridge Newmarket Road store is open as normal after a short closure this morning following a leak from the refrigeration system. The store was evacuated as a precaution and engineers are now working to repair the damaged unit.”
