Cambridgeshire schoolgirl raises more than £1,100 by having her hair cut

Emilia Bates was inspired to help cancer patients after seeing a TV programme

inspired by a TV programme showing children who had lost their hair through cancer treatment that she decided to raise funds by having her own locks cut off.

Emilia, who goes to St Philip’s School, Cambridge, has so far raised more than £1,150 for the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to children who have lost their hair through illnesses.

She was given a complimentary haircut at Mui and Kerr on Cherry Hinton High Street and delighted mum Anna said she is already thinking about doing it again.

“I am very proud of her,” said Ms Bates. “Emilia saw the programme and kept bringing it up. It took her six to seven months to decide whether she wanted to do it but then thought it would make someone else happy and decided to go for it.

“She has raised more than £1,100 so far and beat her original target.”
