Celebrities to read questions for Cambridge charity quiz

A-list celebrities including Benedict Cumberbatch, Joanna Lumley, and Ewan McGregor are amongst the stars to record video questions in a quiz to raise money to help the NHS fight coronavirus.

The quiz has been put together over the past two weeks by three Trumpington siblings, Sam Gisby, 22, along with his sister Addy, 19, and brother Josh,17.

The Big Quarantine Quiz will air on YouTube on Sunday evening and is set to have a few more surprise celebrity appearances.

“The reaction’s been incredible,’ says Sam Gisby, 22, from Cambridge. “It’s not every day you get a video from Benedict Cumberbatch dropping into your inbox.’

Sam will host the quiz from the family’s living room, along with Addy and Josh.

“The idea came from doing a family quiz online a couple of weeks ago,’ Sam says. ‘We just thought we could do this much bigger and better, and raise money for a brilliant cause as well. We had a dry run last weekend with a bunch of friends and family, and it was really great. We raised more than £1.5k for the NHS which was amazing.”

The quiz will be streamed live on YouTube, on Sunday, April 26, from 7.45 in the evening, and will raise money for the NHS Charities COVID-19 Appeal.

There will be six rounds, with ten questions in each. The categories will range from general knowledge, to TV and film, music, sport, and science and nature.

Celebrities will appear in each round, posing questions to the live audience.

Sam, who has just finished a degree at Oxford University, says, “I want to thank those high profile people who have agreed to participate. We were so pleased – and delighted! – that they took time to record a video question and send it to us.

“As a family we love doing quizzes and a couple of weeks ago decided we should come up with one ourselves to raise money for the NHS. A friend of a friend had contacts with some of these famous actors and they put us in touch. We were amazed when so many were willing to help.”

Although the quiz is free to join there will be a link on screen to show people how to donate to the NHS Charities COVID-19 Appeal.

Ellie Orton, CEO of NHS Charities Together said: “Projects like this are so important at the moment. Not only do they give us an excuse to test and expand our general knowledge and bring us together, they are also raising money for a really important cause. We’re absolutely thrilled that the proceeds from this will be going to help frontline staff, volunteers and patients. It will make a huge difference.”

There’s no limit to how many people can take part in the quiz. Anyone interested can find The Big Quarantine Quiz live from 7.45pm here, and can turn on channel notifications to be notified when the quiz is live: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq2xgbaawZfsXl6bUQRbKSg
