Changes for visitors to Cambridgeshire household recycling centres introduced from March 1

Residents will not need to pre-book slots to visit Cambridgeshire’s household recycling centres from Tuesday, March 1.

The county council announced the chance following the easing of national Covid restrictions.

Booking had been in place to manage traffic flow and aid social distancing, but the council said that will now be controlled by staff at entrances to the nine sites, which will operate at pre-pandemic capacity.

Drivers of vans and trailers will still be required to have an e-permit to visit, however, and these will be registered by staff on arrival.

Cllr Lorna Dupré, chair of the council’s environment and green investment committee, said: “We’re happy to announce that residents will no longer need to pre-book visits to our household recycling centres, which we feel is no longer necessary as Covid restrictions are being eased.

“However, we would still advise residents visiting the sites to stay safe and follow safety guidance where possible. We would also like to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation when visiting the sites since the start of the pandemic.”

E-permit for van and trailer can be applied for at https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/waste-and-recycling/household-recycling-centre-e-permit-scheme. Permits are limited to one per household and 12 visits per year.
