Cherry Hinton bungalow could be replaced by 10-person house in multiple occupation
A Cherry Hinton bungalow could be knocked down to make way for a 10-person shared house.
Developer Nemer Properties has submitted plans to Cambridge City Council to demolish 190 High Street to create the house in multiple occupation (HMO) and also plans a replacement two-bedroom bungalow at the site.
The developer said the two-and-a-half storey HMO would “contribute towards an identified housing need”.
Each bedroom would be a double room, with a communal kitchen and laundry room also proposed.
Planning documents state: ““The HMO will help meet the demand for affordable and flexible housing solutions within the community and aligns with both national and local planning policies.
“Additionally, the inclusion of a single dwelling at the rear of the property offers a unique opportunity to utilise this windfall site for a family home.
“Situated in a well-established area with access to local amenities and well-connected sustainable travel routes to both the south and north of the city, this new dwelling will cater to the needs of local families.
“The proposal enhances the residential character of the area without compromising its aesthetic harmony.
“It maintains the scale and character of the surrounding properties, while ensuring compliance with local housing standards, making it a practical and valuable contribution to the neighbourhood.”
The developer proposes one car parking space for the 10-person HMO, which would be used by visitors and deliveries. It said it not proposing any more spaces as the HMO is in a “sustainable location”.
The plans said: “The location offers access to a wide range of services and employment opportunities, with numerous alternatives to car travel readily available.
“Additionally, a bus stop located directly in front of the site provides convenient connections to the wider area, further reducing the need for private car use.”
The developer plans 12 cycle parking spaces for the HMO.
The new bungalow would have two car parking spaces and four cycle parking spaces.
