Children’s Christmas lights bring festive cheer to Cambridge city centre
Two special neon lights are adding some extra seasonal cheer to the Cambridge Corn Exchange this Christmas.
Children were asked to design some festive art for the annual Kidsmas Lights competition – now in its third year – and the winning entries have been brought to life in a neon celebration of Christmas colour.
Organised by Cambridge City Council’s city events team, the idea was originally inspired by a town in Scotland called Newburgh, which for the last 22 years has created a new Christmas light to bring the festive cheer.
The newly-unveiled winning designs by primary pupils Gaia and Julie joined by Cambridge’s mayor, Cllr Jenny Gawthrope Wood – are being displayed alongside winning lights from the last two years.
Natalie Cargill from Kidsmas Lights sponsor, Cambridge BID, said: “This is such a fun, inspiring project – one which involves and includes children across the city.
“It’s building a wonderful community legacy year on year, with a growing collection that will contribute to lighting up Cambridge city centre so beautifully, this year and in future Christmases.”
