Cinema group announces plan for opening at Grand Arcade in Cambridge
A new luxury cinema looks set to open in the Grand Arcade if it wins planning permission.
The boutique cinema brand Everyman is eyeing up 15,600 sq ft of space on the first floor of the shopping centre that was previously home the Arcadia Group - which owned Top Shop and Top Man.
Subject to planning consent being granted, Everyman says it is working towards an opening in 2024, with customers accessing the new cinema from the main shopping mall. The cinema is expected to have a 25-year leas
The deal with the Grand Arcade follows a run of new stores opening there in recent months, including JD Sports, TAG Hauer and Beaverbrooks.
Martin Macwhinnie, centre manager for the Grand Arcade, said: “As a major retail and leisure hub for the city centre we are pleased to be paving the way for Everyman to open one of its iconic cinemas for the affluent Cambridge catchment.
“It aligns with the retail and leisure mix already on offer at the scheme – which includes Apple, Russell & Bromley, Tesla, and John Lewis & Partners. It is another signal of occupier confidence in key trading locations in key regional cities.”
Alex Scrimgeour, CEO at Everyman, said: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our Everyman portfolio to include Cambridge, doubling our offering in the East of England. The Grand Arcade is the perfect location to open our doors and reach new customers who have a passion for cinema, from both Cambridge and further afield.”
There are 38 Everyman cinemas around the country, which offer a mix of popular, independent, and classic films, as well as special events, launches, and a calendar of live satellite broadcasts. Film-goers can take a glass of wine or slice of pizza to their seats.
If planning permission is granted, the Grand Arcade would begin work on the retail space in 2023 in readiness for Everyman to take occupancy and fit out the cinema in preparation for opening to the public in 2024.
Grand Arcade is already home to 50 brands including John Lewis and Partners, Apple, Ted Baker, Hollister, Skechers, Gant, Calvin Klein, The White Company, Levi’s, Mango, Tesla, and food and drinks operators such as Carluccio’s, Honest Burger, and Starbucks.
