Climate protests planned for Cambridge this weekend
Two separate protests are planned by Extinction Rebellion in Cambridge city centre tomorrow (Saturday, November 2).
They have been organised by Extinction Rebellion Cambridge, with one protest set to take place near the Guildhall, called ‘Blood of the Youth’ from 1.45pm to 3pm.
The event’s official Facebook page said: “XR Cambridge's Youth and Grandparents will join together to demonstrate that we all have blood on our hands and a responsibility to clean up our mess for future generations.”
A second event called ‘Red Rebels on the River - Water Scarcity Action’ will also be held tomorrow between 2.45pm and 5pm.
The protest's Facebook page said: “Cambridgeshire is the driest part of Britain yet faces increasing water demand. In May 2019 the River Cam was at its lowest level of flow since records began in 1949. It may not look like it, but the river is drying up. Without water, we will have no trees, no crops and nothing to drink.
“To highlight this crisis, the Red Rebels will be taking to the water.”
Cambridge City Council is warning that there might be delays entering and leaving Grand Arcade car park “due to a demonstration in the city centre”.
Cambridgeshire Police have said are ready for this weekend's protests.
