The Cambridge Independent's columnist Dawn Isaac was recognised as one of the country's leading gardening writers as she was shortlisted for the Garden Media Guild Awards 2017.

Dawn, who writes a monthly article for the paper, was shortlisted alongside the likes of Alan Titchmarsh for the Dr David Hessayon Garden Columnist of the Year Award.

The judges said Dawn “writes with an easy-going delight in the changing seasons in the Cambridge Independent”, which was the only non-gardening publication included in the list.

While the award was won by Katherine Swift, who writes for The English Garden, Dawn was delighted to have made the finals: “When I saw the names of my fellow finalists, I felt that sitting alongside those people in any category was an award in itself.”
