Covid-19 in Cambridgeshire: Data for each area as hospital numbers remain low despite rising cases




The number of cases of Covid-19 has risen in every part of Cambridgeshire in the last week, as the dominant and highly transmissible Delta variant continues to spread.

The virus also claimed its first life in the county since April 30.

The death on June 7 in Huntingdonshire took the total number in the county within 28 days of a positive test since the pandemic began to 802.

Below, we look in detail at the numbers at a neighbourhood level for every part of the county.

The promising news is that the number of Covid patients in hospital remain low, thanks to the continued roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines.

On June 8, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Addenbrooke’s, had two Covid patients on its wards, having last admitted one on June 1.

The Royal Papworth Hospital, which has specialist heart and lung skills, had five, with the last Covid patient admitted there on June 2.

Countywide, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases rose by 39 (49.4 per cent) on the previous week to 118.

The infection rate of 18.1 cases per 100,000 people remained below the national average.

In contrast, nearby Bedford, where there has been a major outbreak of the Delta variant, had an infection rate of 157 cases per 100,000 people with 272 cases in the week.

The latest data shows Cambridgeshire, excluding Peterborough, has now recorded:

  • 28,598 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, as of May 28, 2021
  • 114 in the five days from June 7-11, according daily case data, which is subject to change, but indicate a rise on the previou week already
  • 802 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on June 7
  • 983 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

Vaccination numbers for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

NHS figures show:

  • 64.4 per cent of those aged 30-34 have had their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, along with 78.8 per cent of those aged 35-39, 87.7 per cent of those aged 40-44 and 88 per cent of of those aged 45-49.
  • 72.3 per cent of those aged 50-54 have had both doses, along with 79.6 power cent of those aged 55-59 and more than nine out of 10 of those aged 60 and over
  • 931,428 doses have been administered across the areas

Cambridge

Confirmed Covid-19 cases rose in Cambridge, with 28 in the week to June 6 - up eight (40 per cent), on the previous week.

The infection rate of 22.4 cases per 100,000 remained below the national average.

Three areas had more than two cases - Central and West Cambridge had four, Queen Edith’s had three and West Chesterton had four.

Cambridge has recorded:

  • 5,905 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • 22 in the five days from June 7-11, according daily case data which is subject to change
  • 89 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on February 25;
  • 134 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

South Cambridgeshire

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Cambridgeshire nearly doubled in a week, but from a low base.

There were 27 in the week to June 6, up 13 (92.9 per cent) on the previous seven days.

The infection rate of 17 cases per 100,000 people remained below the national average.

Six areas recorded more than two cases, with the highest number seen in Histon, Impington and Orchard Park, with six.

South Cambridgeshire has recorded:

  • 5,911 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • 27 cases in the five days from June 7-11, according to daily case data, which is subject to change
  • 156 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on April 27
  • 205 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate

East Cambridgeshire

After a week of just two cases, Ely recorded 13 (up 11 or 550 per cent) in the seven days to June 6.

But the infection rate of 14.5 cases per 100,000 remains below the national average.

Five of the cases were in Soham. Nowhere else in the district had more than two cases.

East Cambridgeshire has recorded:

  • 3,074 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • six cases in the five days from June 7-11, according to daily case data, which is subject to change
  • 91 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on February 15
  • 109 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate

Huntingdonshire

One death within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test was recorded in Huntingdonshire in the last week - the first since March 30.

The death, on June 7, took the total number in the district since the pandemic began to 257.

Case numbers were stable in the week to June 6.

There were 34 cases, up two (6.2 per cent) on the previous week, taking the number of cases beyond the 8,000 mark since the start of the pandemic.

Five areas had more than two cases in the latest weekly figures, with Somersham, Riptons and Raveleys recording the most, with seven. The most recent daily numbers suggest a rising number of cases in the district.

Huntingdonshire has recorded:

  • 8,029 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • 44 cases in the five days from June 7-11, according to daily case data, which is subject to change
  • 257 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on June 7
  • 299 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate

Fenland

Whittlesey had an outbreak of 10 Covid-19 cases in the week to June 6.

These accounted for the majority of the 16 cases seen in Fenland in the seven days. The number was up five (45.5 per cent) on the previous week.

The infection rate of 15.7 cases per 100,000 people remained below the national average.

Fenland has recorded:

  • 5,679 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • 15 cases in the five days from June 7-11, according to daily case data, which is subject to change
  • 209 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on April 30
  • 236 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate

Peterborough

Confirmed Covid-19 case numbers rose in the week to June 6 in Peterborough.

There were 43, up 10 (30.3 per cent), taking the infection rate to 21.3 cases per 100,000 people, which remains below the national average.

The highest number seen in one area was nine, in Peterborough Central.

Peterborough has recorded:

  • 15,963 confirmed cases since the pandemic began
  • 27 cases in the five days from June 7-11, according to daily case data, which is subject to change
  • 338 deaths by June 11 within 28 days of a positive test, the last of which was on April 16, according to preliminary Public Health England data
  • 378 deaths, as of May 28, in which Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate
