Detailed plans submitted for 107-home Longstanton development

Detailed plans have been drawn up for a 107-home development in Longstanton, which would generate an investment of more than £1.6million in the area through planning contributions.

Bellway has submitted a reserved matters application to South Cambridgeshire District Council seeking detailed planning permission to build the new homes, which are a mix of 61 houses for private sale and 43 affordable properties, on an 11-acre site west of Station Road.

The housebuilder acquired the land in October last year, with outline planning permission for up to 107 homes already in place.

Land is also allocated for a mixed-use community building which could include employment or community uses and a café.

More than three acres of the site would be green open space to include wildlife areas, a drainage scheme, a children’s play area, cycleways and footpaths.

Jonathan Wells, land director for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “This new development has been carefully planned to form a seamless extension to the wider Northstowe neighbourhood which is already a well-established community.

“It will deliver a new choice of homes in the area for people in a wide range of circumstances, as well as new open space and investment in local facilities.”

The planning agreement attached to the outline permission secured a range of developer contributions including £975,000 for education within Northstowe, from early years up to secondary school.

Highways contributions would see £256,000 invested in improved connectivity between Longstanton Park and Ride and the Waterpark, improved cycle routes and a contribution to the guided busway. More than £315,000 would be spent on sports and community facilities in Northstowe.

Mr Wells added: “We continue to look for land where we can provide new homes for the local housing market and deliver the additional benefits in terms of jobs and investment which come hand-in-hand with the construction of new homes.

“We work closely with local communities to ensure our new developments will meet their needs and are looking forward to progressing both of these new schemes subject to planning permission being secured.”
