Rust asked to use a passing student’s access card and entered with a bicycle, which he left on the rack before making off with two e-scooters and one e-scooter charger.

He was arrested in Dover Street, Cambridge, on 30 March.

Rust, of no fixed abode, was jailed for six months and ordered to pay £370 in compensation after admitting the thefts at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (1 April).

PC Mahir Ahmed said: “Rust persuaded a student to let him into somewhere he shouldn’t have had access to.

“He will now spend time behind bars, and we will continue to take thieves off the streets of Cambridge.”
