Easter egg hunt brings community together at Histon Road Recreation Ground

Histon Road Recreation Ground in Cambridge was transformed into a hub of excitement on Saturday (19 April) as families gathered for a festive Easter egg hunt.

More than 80 children, accompanied by over 100 parents and grandparents and other family members, eagerly searched every corner of the children’s playgrounds and wooded area for 60 hidden eggs at the event organised by the Friends of Histon Road Recreation Ground (FoHRR).

FOHRR, a volunteer community group dedicated to enhancing park access and community wellbeing, designed the egg hunt to strengthen neighbourhood bonds and encourage residents to actively engage with their local recreational spaces.

A member of the committee said: “Our mission is to work with the city council to encourage participation and provide opportunities for people to be actively involved.

“We encourage our members to engage with the ongoing care and maintenance of this unique space. Today’s children will be the legacy we are encouraging.

“It is not just a recreation ground, but a vital space for the encouragement and development of the wider biodiversity already existing in the recreation ground and park.

“Events like this help transform public spaces into hubs of community interaction.”

The Easter celebration was supported through waiving some event charges from the city council and the Cambridge Investment Partnership, which funded the cost of Easter egg prizes for every child.

FOHRR continues to develop programming aimed at bringing residents together and enhancing quality of life in the area.
