Eliana’s sugar challenge is a sweet success
A girl from Comberton has undertaken a month-long challenge to raise money for a classmate who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Eliana Seed, 7, gave up refined sugar for a whole month – finishing just in time for Easter – to raise money for classmate Molly Durrant, 8. Both are pupils at Barton Primary School. Eliana completed the challenge last Thursday (April 6). So far, she has raised more than £350.
Eliana says she missed ice cream the most and when asked if she found it difficult going without sugar for a whole month, replied: “It was OK, apart from going to birthday parties.”
She undertook the challenge “to help my friend Molly, who has just been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and raise money for JDRF [Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation]”.
Eliana’s parents, Kendra and Graham Seed, said: “This has been a really difficult challenge for Eliana as she loves sweet things but she’s done really well to give up all those sweet treats for a whole month. We’re really proud of her!”
