Fire investigators and police attend scene of serious fire at Cambridge flats




A serious fire damaged the first and second floor of a block of flats in King’s Hedges, Cambridge, in the early hours of this morning (Friday, June 30).

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service investigators are on the scene at Sackville Close, along with police officers.

There is a poilice cordon around the property and officers have been seen entering the building with a dog.

A fire service spokesperson said: “On Friday (30) at 1.08am, emergency services were called to reports of a house fire on Sackville Close, King’s Hedges ward. Over 30 firefighters attended the incident. Crews arrived to find smoke issuing from a ground floor flat.

“Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading to neighbouring flats. They left the scene shortly after 6am. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.”

A Cambridge City Council spokesperson said: “There has been a serious fire at a council tenant’s property in Sackville Close. We are working to provide support to those people who have been directly affected, including the occupants of neighbouring properties. We are also working closely with our emergency services partners who are at the scene and we will support their investigation into its cause.”
