Playtime in Cambridge is about to get more exciting, with five playgrounds in Cambridge set for a major revamp.

Funding provided by developers who are building in the area will pay for the work.

Designs have been drawn up so that residents can see the proposed improvements and the city council is asking anyone interested to submit their comments or make suggestions for the play areas.

The areas with consultations still open for new playgrounds are: Tenby Close, Lichfield Road, Gunhild Close, Coldhams Lane and King George V playing field in Trumpington. Artist’s impressions of four of them have been released.

The government requires developers to pay the funding to offset the impact of new homes and other buildings, which create extra demands on local facilities.

A council officer’s report explains: “Every ward in Cambridge benefits from new or improved facilities funded from S106 contributions. These include community meeting rooms, play areas, open spaces, sports centres, and public art.”

The developments would see new play equipment installed including climbing frames, slides, accessible roundabouts, balance trails, see-saws and more.

The consultation will end on Friday, October 12.

Public responses will help councillors decide if the projects should be implemented.
