A starving kitten, who weighed just 500g - the same as a small bag of sugar - was found in a Cambridgeshire hedgerow by a dog walker.

Named Dale by Blue Cross, the charity which is caring for him until he's ready for a new home, the kitten was believed to be only five-weeks-old when he was brought into the rehoming centre on Garlic Row, Cambridge.

Sarah Bates, centre manager at Blue Cross Cambridge, said: “Poor Dale must have been terrified, all alone without his mother to care for him.

“His finder said they had been aware of him for a few days on their walks and had seen many dogs chase poor Dale, but he had got away and they were unable to capture him.

“When Dale arrived with us he was very underweight with his spine easily felt. His nose was all dirty and he had yellow stained paws. He was very shy, not eating or moving to start, so we kept a very close eye on him and moved him into one of our foster homes.

“I’m happy to say Dale has really blossomed and is making progress every day. He’s now eating really well and learning how to play, rather than having to worry about where his next meal will come from.”

Dale will be cared for by Blue Cross until he is ready to go up for rehoming with the charity.

Sarah added: “He’s such a cutie, the whole team has fallen in love with him. I don’t think it will take us long to find him a loving forever home.”
