Hauxton mum's cancer charity head shave becomes a family affair
A mother and five of her seven children have had their heads shaved – or hair cut short – to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Shelley Pearson, from Hauxton, who lost her father, Bob Pearson, to lung cancer, had her head shaved at Hauxton Primary School on Saturday, August 17.
“We lost dad to lung cancer in January,” said Shelley, “and basically we just wanted to try to raise some money to help.
“We decided to do something in the village because a few people here have had experience of lung cancer.
“I decided to have my head shaved, as did two of my boys, and the three girls had their hair cut. We’ve sent it off to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children with cancer.”
Luca James hairdresser’s from Sawston cut Shelley and the girls’ hair, while Little Shelford-based Antonios sorted the boys’ hair. Andy Grimes, a friend of Shelley’s father, also had his head shaved.
Shelley, whose friends Lisa and Tracey provided food on the day, estimates that the combined total from both parties will be around £2,400, once all the money has come in from the sponsors.
