Have a say on how Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire will grow

Residents have the chance to comment on the Cambridge and South Scambridgeshire local plans.

A six-week consultation is giving residents, businesses, developers and parishes the chance to comment on modifications to the draft local plans for South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge.

The draft plans would allow for the creation of 44,000 new jobs and 33,500 new homes in the area by 2031. Government planning inspectors say the modifications may be needed to make the plans ‘sound’.

The key changes include: a method to calculate whether there is enough suitable land available in the next five years to build the homes, and changing policies so affordable housing is sought on sites of more than 10 homes to encourage smaller housing developments.

There are also changes to the site boundaries and policies at the proposed new town north of Waterbeach, the new village at Bourn Airfield and the allocation of additional employment land at the Addenbrooke’s Campus.

Cllr Kevin Blencowe, city lead for planning, said: “The local plan process has been complex and lengthy but we have now reached an important milestone in the process. Reaching this point means that we are closer to enabling the development that will help to provide much needed new housing and jobs.”
